Sharing Your Mobile Broadband

June 22nd, 2010

One of the great products we offer here at Mobile Telecom is Optus Mobile Broadband. Like a mobile phone, it is a device that connects to the mobile network using a SIM card. It is a small device that plugs into your computer, and connects you to the internet.

For one computer, this physical connection is enough. However, if you have more than one device that you would like to connect, an ad hoc wireless network may be the ideal solution.

An ad-hoc wireless network takes the connection you have through one computer, and then shares it with other devices within range. You will need a computer that can broadcast a Wi-fi signal out to the other devices, and a compatible operating system. Most newer computers will fit the requirements.

If you’re using Windows, Microsoft have a step-by-step setup guide for this kind of network:

If you’re using a Mac, it’s very simple:

1: Click on the AirPort icon in your menu bar. From the AirPort menu, select Create Network.

2: Click on Show Options and create a password as described in the dialog box.

3. Click OK. The AirPort icon in the system menu bar changes to a little computer in a grey signal field.

4. Each user on your ad hoc network can now select the network that appears in his or her AirPort menu and enter the password you set.

Running a Small Business..?

June 11th, 2010

Small Business Accounts tend to fall through the cracks with most providers. While your mobile may be your lifeline and the backbone of your business communications, to many large companies you may be ‘just another number’. That’s where it becomes really important to have an account manager who can personally take care of your business and make sure the Big Provider hold up their end of the bargain.

We understand that as a small business operator, you don’t have time to spend hours on hold while you get tossed between international call centres until someone can help you. The irony is, a direct-line privilege is usually given to the larger companies, who already have account managers of their own who have the time to crunch numbers and play with spreadsheets all day.

That’s where Mobile Telecom come in. We provide you with a personal Account Manager who will make sure you get the best deal out of Optus possible. After many years of dealing with different telecommunications companies, we have found Optus to be the best quality provider for Small to Medium businesses, and have partnered with them in order to provide personal service with the backing of a company that is large enough to service over 96% of Australia’s population.

We don’t charge any ‘finders fees’ or account management costs, because we believe that as an Optus customer you shouldn’t have to pay for good customer service. We will take care of your mobile upgrades, account maintenance and help you to liaise with Optus Customer Service wherever we can, at no extra cost to you. In fact, we regularly have specials and bonus offers that you won’t find in the stores.

To have your Optus Account managed by one of our Optus Business Specialists, just give us a call on 1300 885 944.
